Just went to see this with my 6 year old son and his friend. He's played or seen a lot of the Mario back catalogue with me so he got a lot out of it. As a lifelong Nintendo nerd I also thought it was excellent.

I can absolutely see that for adults without that background it's just an OK kids film. And I can see how much it jumps around between ideas. But I think that's just how Nintendo roll, they pack a lot into each game as well!

I don't think Nintendo looks down on movies, but they do view what they're meant to accomplish pretty differently. It's brand awareness.

Why is "Lumas" in quotes? That's what they're called. I noticed in the Mario Wonder review, you kept calling Rosalina's companion "Luna", when it's actually Luma. I hate to say it, Patrick, but I think your six-year-old might know the Mario lore better than you.

It is funny you say that, because I also pointed out the absence of his family in my own review. While Donkey Kong isn't strictly necessary to the story, the family was the element pushing Mario forward in the first film. Without them, it is as if Mario and his brother have completely abandoned them, with no one left to keep them grounded.
