What My Family Is Watching, Playing, and Reading
It’s been a month of Dress to impress, Wicked, failing to play It Takes Two, and more. Somehow, the trailer for 28 Years Later is part of this, too.

Let’s try something new in the early, sleepy days of January!
I am often taking notes on what my family is up to on their devices, but it doesn’t always mean there’s anything meaningful to share. That said, I thought it’d be fun to check in once per month on what’s been keeping us busy, both inside and outside the world of games, and compare notes with everyone else in the Crossplay community.
I’m hoping you’ll join me in sharing what you’ve been up to, because I want to know what kinds of media—books, movies, whatever!—are taking up your family’s time.
Now, what’ve we been doing while the weather has been in the single digits?
What My Family Is Playing
Dress to Impress
I’ll have more on Crossplay soon, because Dress to Impress, the Roblox game where you compete against others in a fashion show, has taken over my house. Not only are my two children playing the game constantly, but recently, we did “Dress to Impress In Real-Life,” where I gave them prompts on what to wear and watched them walk through the family room, while the Dress to Impress music looped on YouTube.
It Takes Two
Well, I tried. One of the best co-op games in the past few years has continued to go unplayed in my house, despite my repeated attempts. My wife gave it a shot when the game came out, and while she was a good sport, she never suggested playing it again. (She’s not a huge game person.) I hoped my eight-year-old, emboldened by enjoying games like Astro Bot, would be interested, and while she was also a good sport for an hour, it ultimately didn’t go anywhere. It may take two, but sadly, I am but one father.
Gorilla Tag
Much more on this to come, as I dig into VR academia and what it says about younger kids using it. But long story short, my Meta Quest 3—a great device made by a monstrous company—has started charging in my eight-year-old’s room, because she and a friend have been hopping around one of the most popular online playgrounds for kids these days, Gorilla Tag. Honestly, the less you know the better, but I’ll have a post on Crossplay next week about the various ways we’re trying to navigate this.
