I'm definitely conflicted about this sort of thing (and for better or for worse, I'm still at the point where I can tell myself "my kids are still too young, I don't need to figure this out for a couple more years, at which point who knows what the internet landscape will look like, so why bother trying to solve it way in advance?")

That's where I'm at. Ultimately, I think a lot of this stuff is about what your needs are as a family. If I kid was suffering from anxiety that I suspicions was due to internet use, I probably would think about a more intrusive solution to help everyone out.

I'm not sure I'd ever be ready to use one of these methods from screen time limiting, but I do wish some of the companies who own these devices gave parents more flexibility.

Yes, that's really where I'm at. I wish Apple/Google had way more robust, kid-centric options.

I'm surprised built-in software in Apple products isn't as robust as I expected. I feel Apple tries to show how much privacy & protection it provides its users... But it seems that's only for adults. My brother is frustrated by the lack of good controls on the Xbox One and resorts to actively overseeing his son's gaming.

They just need way more flexibility and options imo

I'm looking forward to your guides on parental controls. That's an area that I want to know more about, but I get so tired even thinking about exploring the options.

ProtectMe feels too invasive to me too, but if my kid was in more of a crisis situation there could be value.

I think I'm in the same spot as you! Look forward to these guides in the near future. :)

"I'm looking forward to your guides on parental controls." is one of those phrases I never could have imagined saying pre-kids, btw.
