Lovely story ❤️ our family of 3 often play video games together, the kid loves Grounded and we have spent many a happy hour grinding in the garden building shelters and killing bugs for armour. We've been playing Grounded 2 but it's still quite buggy (aware of pun).

Our kid was diagnosed with cancer late last year and went through vicious chemo which has now finished and they are recovering. During that time they lost themselves in No Man's Sky, Goat Simulator, Minecraft, Grounded and Tears of the Kingdom, amongst others. It gave them the ability to escape the horrors and boredom of the hospital and their treatment. We also got to play alongside and be there with them, as an equal.

My partner also works in the industry, so any time I worry about how much time the kid spends playing games, I remember that not only does gaming provide financially to our family, but emotionally.

Thank you for sharing that, I can't even begin to imagine how hard must have been for you and your partner, going through all that. I'm really glad they're recovering!

I understand it, we often forget the importance games can have as shared experiences, in creating bonds or simply on giving us strenght and courage to go on in some circumstances. Life can truly be hard- we can see it everyday on the news- and even if it was just for a need of escapism games really can help. I remember when I was a shy kid alone at home all afternoon, with no real friends and not much to do. Games were there for me, with all their characters and their stories: they made me feel part of something. Or I also remember when I was a WoW player, how I used to meet with a friend from the other side of the world to simply choose a picturesque spot and talk for hours. That is the power of games.

I wish you and your family all the happiness of this world :) Keep going strong!

I absolutely can relate to the connection aspect with your father!! Thank-you for sharing such a heart felt aspect of your life that 100% resonates with me too. Sadly my relationship with my father is past repair but I have understood why and it has made me determined to understand and cultivate the connections i have with my own children. which does in fact involve an amount of shared video game passion.

I hope you manage to find that time to connect with your dad and we read about it in time :)

Hi Stephen, thank you for your kindness! I'm really glad you could relate to my piece and I do understand what you're talking about. I had to make peace with many things regarding my father too, we're two completely different and inconciliable people and I know all too well that I will never be able to forgive him for what he did to our family. Nowadays we're at least on speaking terms, but even so- well, it's hard. Certainly, now I know that I wasted enough time already in my life seeking his approval and that certain things cannot really change anyway.

We gotta think about the future, exactly as you're doing with your children :)

“That’s exactly the point. We don’t get more than one life. We get a single set of days and minutes, which are limited. And each one’s premium rises as we age.” More on TGM: https://shorturl.at/dHt9n
